Pediatric cancer refers to any type of cancer that affects children, which is generally defined as individuals who are age 18 or younger. This type of cancer can occur in various parts of the body and can have different symptoms depending on where it develops. Some common types of pediatric cancer include leukemia (cancer of the blood), brain tumors, neuroblastoma (a type of nerve cell cancer), lymphoma (cancer of the immune system) and sarcoma (cancer of the bone or soft tissue). Treatment for pediatric cancer often involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or targeted therapy. The prognosis for children with cancer has improved significantly over the years due to advances in research and treatment options; however, it remains a significant health challenge that requires ongoing attention and support.
